    Default Medication that works

I have been plagued with anxiety for most of my adult life. When i had insurance i was able to see doctors and receive prescriptions for alot of the commonly prescribed anxiolotics.

I was laid off this spring, and lost my insurance. Like alot of folks i am now unable to go to the doctor to get the medications that have helped me overcome my anxiety.

Lets share our experience with these medications to help those uninsured decide which of the drugs would work best.

    Default valium

Works well if taken 20-45 minutes before cause of anxiety.

Example: I get anxious in certain social situations. If i know i will be entering a social situation which may trigger an anxiety and/or panic attack, taking a val before hand will usually prevent that.

    Default valium

I like them for flying. I get real nervous when I fly and a v does the trick perfectly. But, I use xanax for sleep.

I am treated for mild anxiety with xanax - either .25 or .5.

Originally it was suggested that I try a long term med called Celexia, I believe. However, since my anxiety isn't really bad, I opted not to start on it because of the side effects.

xanax works great to calm down during an attack.

doesnt last too long though, and it can be very addictive.
withdrawal from xanax is absolutely horrible

Valium WD is not quite as bad as Xanax, but it is horrible. DON"T ever go cold turkey on ANY benzo without medical supervision - you can seize and die. Benzo WD's are way worse then opiates - even heroin. Believe me.

I second that, benzo withdrawals are the worst thing you can do to your body and brain! you need to taper yourself off of them with the help of a doc or else you will end up with seizures or even worse...DEATH!

What are the WD's like? I know well too much about opiate WD's, and I thought that was hell.

Valium works the best for me, calms me right down, and is not too strong. I mean I don't want to be a blubbering idiot, which is what xanax makes me do.

Just for starters I spent 10 days in the ICU strapped down under seizure watch then did not sleep for 28 days. Yep - 28 days.
    I was withdrawing from Xanax.

Default Withdrawal from xanax is HELL!!

But it is the only benzo that controls my anxiety now. Ativan is a close 2nd.

physical withdrawals maybe, but I do not think anything is as mentally as bad as Heroin/*** withdrawals
